LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 has been out for a little while now, but the folks at Traveler’s Tales are keeping the momentum moving with character DLC packs. The Out of time character pack includes seven new characters packed with fun abilities and attacks to help spice up your gameplay in Chronopolis or Level Free Play.
Out of Time Character Pack DLC Includes:
- Hulk 2099
- Captain Assyria
- Daredevil Noir
- Iron Man 2020
- Lady Spider
Our review: We got a taste of the futuristic world of the Marvel Universe with Nueva York and Spider-Man 2099, along with Captain America 2099 and a few other tidbits. Still, I’m of two minds on the characters included here, so I’ve divided the characters into two categories:
The Good: It’s nice to have Iron Man join the ranks, despite having two other versions of the armor. Why? Because this one has mean, mechanical shoulder-pads. No, really, but that’s not the reason. It’s because this one doesn’t change to Tony Stark with a lengthy animation sequence when you hold down the button to choose another character. Hulk 2099 also doesn’t suffer from transformation issues with character selection, and he just looks freaking awesome, both as a model and with his animations. Daredevil Noir doesn’t really fit the futuristic vibe of the other characters, but he should have been given to us as part of the Noir world so his inclusion is definitely welcome. Despite being a character I’ve never really heard of, however, Nosferata wins for being the best character in this DLC pack. She gets the mystical powers of Doctor Strange along with short range teleportation, a heat attack, and her animations look awesome.
The Bad: Captain Assyria is another character thrown in that expands the universe but makes you wonder why they chose such a strange, largely-unknown character. She provides nothing new and that’s disappointing since Cap already got a huge upgrade with the 2099 incarnation that was already in the game. Lady Spider is an odd character to add, although webslingers have always been a bit challenging to play in LEGO games, but this gives players another option to choose from if they get tired of Peter Parker. Finally, Warmaker is another character that’s just going to make players go “eh”. He’s not a bad character, but nothing makes him stand out in a vast library of characters.
